CATALOG SEARCH
Search the Contagion catalog records for a term or phrase describing books, manuscripts, maps, and images in the collection. Key languages present in Contagion include English, German, French, Spanish, and Chinese.
Hints
- Use an asterisk as wildcard at the beginning, middle, or end of a word to search partial words: tuberculos* will retrieve tuberculose and tuberculosis
- You can use and, or, and not operators
- Multiple words without quotes will be searched as if they were combined with the and operator.
- Search for a phrase by enclosing it in double quotes, eg. "Spanish Influenza"
FULL TEXT SEARCH
Search the machine–printed text of books, journals, and pamphlets. Full Text search returns a list of links, sorted by relevancy, to pages that contain your search term or phrase.
Constraints
- Full Text search does not include the descriptive information for texts and images in Catalog Search. Thus, to locate all material in the collection related a search term or phrase, one should execute three searches: Catalog Search, Full Text search, and Pages of the Contagion Web Site Search.
- Handwritten manuscripts have not been transcribed, so their contents are not Full Text searchable.
- Not all machine–printed languages present in Contagion (e.g., Latin) have been converted by OCR.
- The OCR–generated text has not been corrected, so there is no guarantee of 100% retrieval of all pages (page images) that contain a full–text search term or phrase.
