The reply (p. 34-45) has caption title: A reply to the religious scruples against inoculating the small pox, in a letter to a friend. It was first published in Boston in 1721 under title: A letter to a friend in the country, attempting a solution of the scruples & objections ... against the new way of receiving the small-pox, by a minister of Boston [revealed to be William Cooper in the 3rd ed.] (Boston, 1730).

Colman's narrative and Cooper's letter were first published as two pamphlets in Boston in 1721.
