Note
Compiled, at least in part, in the 1830s when Very was a student in Harvard College. Contains copied passages from works on Greek and Latin languages, history, poets, and philosophers, as well as passages on general reading and composition. Two pages include accounts of Very's third term at Harvard in April 1834. An index is at the end of the volume.

Very graduated from Harvard in 1836 and was a tutor in Greek at Harvard. He went on to become an essayist and poet, clergyman, and a member of the New England Transcendentalist movement. He has been variously described as highly religious, pious, and fanatical. He spent time in an asylum for the mentally ill and lived much of his life as a recluse.
