Some Students Discuss the Photograph "The New England Kitchen"

CARRIE: The other one [the Tivolia Beater] seems to [be focused on] the individual household, the individual woman. And—and maybe—this is—women doing other things—learning, working.

DENNIS: One of the things I find confusing—I mean, connecting back to what Kathy said—is that, yeah, the egg beater to me feels so—focused on the individual woman, and the—the work of prepping food or creating—of cooking and making food. And it feels—to me, and I think from the comments—that this [The New England Kitchen] isn’t an individual’s kitchen—or, it’s not like the kitchen of a home, it’s more of—it’s something else. It’s something where there’s more people involved, whether it be a cooking school, or something, and so I’m trying to make—so the connection of, like, from the individual focused in the home to—this, which tends not to be, is hard for me to m—I mean, maybe the connection is that they’re—is that it’s looking at what it means—what it means in this era to make food, um—and the difference being what are the problems and solutions on an individual level, and then—

ANA: Yeah, one is domestic use, I mean it’s definitely [for] one [household], and this [is] more, like, public, or something.
